Thanksgiving Meals for the Chronically Ill

Thanksgiving is around the corner and I know that can make a lot of us on healing journeys feel a bit uncertain. I don’t know about you but the first thing I used to think of was, “What am I going to eat?”.

I mean food is one of the reasons we look forward to celebrating Thanksgiving! Most of us wait all year for our mom’s savory stuffing or our grandma’s famous pumpkin pie. There’s a ton of emotions tied to food as well as traditions. As you see choosing what to eat for Thanksgiving can be a very emotional choice.

The first Thanksgiving on my healing journey was a bit of an emotional struggle but in the end, I did not feel like I missed out. I was actually able to participate in celebrating just like everyone else. To my surprise, I found it quite exciting to explore new dishes. It was like I was experiencing a whole new king of Thanksgiving. This feeling had fueled my excitement to explore and find new dishes for the holiday.

Now that I have celebrated many Thanksgivings while on my healing journey, it is no different than when I celebrated before changing my diet. Over the years I’ve made new traditions around healing foods that support my body. A plus side to that, is that I no longer experience that uncomfortable feeling of being stuffed. I know you are familiar with that, lol.

So in the spirit of Thanksgiving I wanted to share some festive recipes that I have found. Some I have made, while others are just recipes that I felt were worth trying. Hoping that you’ll be able to find at least one or two that tickle your fancy.

Happy Thanksgiving!
